CH 21 A Long Way Gone Vocabulary Words



Apprentice
Definition: A person who works for another in order to gain a certain knowledge.
Sentence: The Doctors APPRENTICE learned how to give a shot.










Auspiced
Definition: To patronage or support.
Sentence: Many people AUSPICED the civil rights movement.













Conducted
Definition: To stand in front of a group of musicians or singers and direct their playing or singing.
Sentence: The Conductor CONDUCTED the Orchestra for an entire hour.







Halted
Definition: To stop moving In motion.
Sentence: The stop sign HALTED many cars on the street.










Looted
Definition: Taking anything without permission, or stealing.
Sentence: The Pirate LOOTED the money he stole from the bank.











Primary
Definition: The first or highest rank of importance.
Sentence: Chief Inspector is the Highest PRIMARY rank in law enforcement.











Predicament
Definition: A difficult or perplexing situation.
Sentence: The man was in a PREDICAMENT situation.










Reconcile
Definition: To compose, settle, or bring into agreement.
Sentence: The two business have RECONCILED there differences and merged there companies.






Residues
Definition: The remainder or aftermath of something.
Sentence: There wasn’t much RESIDUES after the bombing of Hiroshima.








Tingling
Definition: To have a sensation of slight prickles, stings, or tremors, as from cold, a sharp blow, excitement, etc
Sentence: The person started to feel a TINGLING sensation in there fingers.




Vaults
Definition: Arched structure made out of concrete, metal, or brick.
Sentence: The bank VAULT was empty after a pirate took the money.
